Program Overview

Educational Objectives:

Upon conclusion of this course, participants will be able to: medical center
  • Describe proper patient selection for RLRP
  • Discuss standard port placement and variations for obesity and men with prior abdominal surgery
  • Discuss the key steps of the RLRP:
    • Lymph node dissection
    • Management of the dorsal vein complex
    • Seminal vesical, Prostate and Bladder neck dissection
    • Nerve preservation and Apical management
    • Anastamosis
  • Describe variations in current expert surgeons’ techniques for individual RLRP steps
  • Discuss technical approaches for:
    • Large prostate sizes, Median prostate lobes
    • Abdominal hernias, previous surgery and obese patients
    • Optimal 4th robot arm use
  • Describe management of intra-operative complications
  • Describe patient selection and various nerve sparing techniques
  • Review current standardized measuring instruments to follow patient QOL recovery
  • Compare quality of life (QOL) issues related to RLRP to other surgical procedures for prostate cancer
  • Discuss post-operative protocols to improve patient recovery of sexual dysfunction
  • Compare reported positive surgical margin (PSM) rates for RLRP to other procedures for prostate cancer
  • Describe methods to reduce PSM rates
  • Discuss cancer control outcomes of RLRP
  • Discuss management of biochemical failure following RLRP
  • Discuss adjuvant treatment options for high risk patients following RLRP

Nurses and other Allied Health Care Professionals will be provided with a certificate of participation, which may be used for requesting credits in accordance with state boards, specialty societies, or other professional associations.

Cancellation Policy:

If you cancel your participation in this conference, your registration fee, less a $100 administrative fee, will be refunded when written notification is received by May 27, 2008.  No refunds will be made after May 27, 2008. Participants are responsible for canceling their own accommodation and travel arrangements.
